Welcome to The Optimal Runner!

My passion for running began in the 4th grade with a 400-meter race on school field day. I finished a close second, but the thrill of rounding that final corner into the homestretch is a feeling I still carry with me. That moment sparked a lifelong love for the sport.

Throughout my school years, I competed on my track team, eventually qualifying for the Ohio State Track Meet in the 1600m in 2010, where I placed 10th. Running was my foundation, but during college, my focus shifted as I was fortunate to play collegiate soccer at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN. I ran to stay fit for soccer, occasionally jumping into summer 5Ks and even a couple of triathlons in West Milton with my younger brother.

After college, I found myself searching for a new challenge. My amazing wife, Hannah, encouraged me to try the Indy Mini Half Marathon, a race she had enjoyed. I signed up, unsure of what to expect, having never run more than 7 miles. But I held on and hit my goal of finishing under 1:30. The energy of a big race was contagious, and I was hooked.

Soon after, we moved to Cincinnati, and I set my sights on the local Flying Pig Marathon. While shopping for shoes early in training, I discovered the Mojo Running Club and joined their weekly long run. What I found was more than just a group, it was a supportive, inspiring community that helped me cross the finish line of my first marathon in 3:30 on a hilly course.

Since then, I’ve continued to grow as a runner, learning from my own experiences and from the incredible people I’ve met along the way. With a deep interest in analytics and performance, I’m always exploring ways to become a smarter, stronger, and more efficient athlete.

The Optimal Runner is my space to share what I’ve learned—to help you improve your own running journey, whether you’re chasing a PR or just starting out. Thanks for joining me. Let’s run smarter, train better, and grow together.
