Flying Pig Marathon Training Week 11 Recap
Another week of hitting the mid-50’s for total mileage. This week also featured my first 20 miler of the training season. Legs are starting to feel the grind of marathon training, but overall have been feeling pretty good for this stage.
Daily Recaps:
â—¾ Monday: After pushing last week’s long run to Sunday, I started off the week with a shorter & slower run just to recover from the big effort the day before. Got caught in a snow storm for the first 2 miles then ended bright and sunny. Classic Ohio in March!
â—¾ Tuesday: Tackled some hills close to my house for a Tuesday Tempo run. The @runflyingpig features over 1,000 feet of elevation gain/loss so working hard to prepare for all of the ups and downs. Overall it was a good run right around marathon pace for most of the miles (6:51 avg).
â—¾ Wednesday: Enjoyed running with the 84.51 running group this morning. Some good conversation with friends made the run go by quickly. Stayed relaxed and enjoyed this one as we toured Northern Kentucky.
â—¾ Thursday: Didn’t really go into this run with a plan, but ended running a progression for 8 miles. A strong wind in the first half made this a little tough but ended with 3 miles average 6:05 towards the end of the run.
â—¾ Friday: Knocked out 7 easy miles on St. Patty’s day to round out my mileage for the week.
â—¾ Saturday: Made it back to the Mojo RC for my first 20 miler of the training build. Followed my friend Mark’s plan of 8 steady, 10 @ 7:00-7:10, 2 CD. It was VERY windy and got snowy towards the end. We persevered and hit every split along the way. 7:14 avg for my fastest 20 mile training split. Great confidence builder!
â—¾ Sunday: Rest Day
