Week 1 of Flying Pig Marathon training done!
After taking the fall season off, marathon training is back and boy is it tough. While I enjoy pushing myself each day, it is very tiring! Solid week of running overall just getting my body back in the grind of running everyday. Goal was to get to 40 miles for the first week and came in with 43.6.
â—¾ Monday: The Flying Pig course is very hilly so making it a priority to get in some hills. Kept the pace moderate for most of the run and gained a little over 500ft of elevation over 7.4 miles.
â—¾ Tuesday: First workout of the training season. Ran through the rain and did 6x800m with 2 mins of recovery between. My goal was 3:00 or faster for each rep and averaged 2:57.
â—¾ Wednesday: After 2 straight days of working the legs, I relaxed the pace (8:10) for a little over 6 miles. It was a much appreciated easy day.
â—¾ Thursday: Over my years of marathon training, Thursdays have become tempo days. Managed 6 miles at around 6:40 pace between cooling down over the final mile. Will gradually add miles to the tempo each week to build up marathon pace endurance.
â—¾ Friday: A relaxed four miles after finishing up work. Debated skipping the easy run, but decided to get in a few miles to move the legs and get a good stretch in.
â—¾ Saturday: Long Run with my Mojo Running Club was a good one to kick off the long runs for the training block. 12 total miles with the last 3 at around 7:00 pace. Felt great overall and enjoyed the company of my friends on the run.
â—¾ Sunday: Rest Day. Some people can manage running 7 days a week, but I have found that I get more benefit, physically and mentally, from taking each Sunday off to rest and recover.
